Committee members who abstained outnumbered those who voted on the corporate directors’ liability bill Citing an attorney general’s opinion on possible conflicts-ofinterest, eight members who serve on non-profit or corporate boards declined to vote on the bill, which was reported 5-1.
In addition to the corporal* directors’ liability cap, the bill would limit the liability of paid directors of non-profit groups to a year’s salary. Volunteers for such groups would be liable only in cases of willful misconduct.
The jury bill would eliminate the exemption from duty now granted to lawyers, doctors, dentists, police, firefighters, military personnel, professors, farmers engaged in harvest, and a few others.
Mr. White said the bill, endorsed unanimously and without debate, is designed to make juries more representative of the population.
