Drawing in color Local artist Robin Purnell will offer a 10-week class in the pastel medium, meeting Monday evenings, Feb. 16-April 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Middle St. Gallery in Washington. Using natural objects as the subject and guide, the class will explore the many uses and techniques of pastel drawing. Several classes will also be devoted to portraiture and the history of pastels. Participants should have some drawing experience. The fee for the 10 weeks course is $100, which does not include materials. Please call Robin Purnell at 675-3081 to register.
Historical Society meeting The winter meeting of the Rappahannock Historical Society will be held on Friday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Courthouse on Gay Street. All members and interested persons are urged to attend. ARB to meet The Architectural Review Board will meet Thursday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. in the courthouse. Interested persons are urged to attend. Dance at Amissville The band Royal Tones will play for a dance sponsored by the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Proper dress is required and persons attending must be 21 years of age. Henry Taylor to read Henry Taylor, Loudoun County native and 1986 Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Will read selections from his works on Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. This third event in the Second Friday Program Series, sponsored by the Rappahannock County Public Library, will be held at the Gay Street Theatre in Washington. There will be a reception immediately following at the Library, where people may meet and talk with the poet in that more intimate atmosphere. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend both functions free of charge.
