Merrill Moody, director of county welfare services, in whose custody the children have been placed, said that "they had not eaten in probably 12 to 14 hours. But they are not malnourished . . . They had some bug bites, possibly flea bites. They had some scratches, typical childrenplaying type scratches.”
Tallahassee police spokesman Scott Hunt said last week that the oldest child, a six-year-old girl, appeared to have been sexually abused. The results of medical examinations of all six of the children have not yet been made public. A second, unidentified, source close to the investigation has disputed Mr. Hunt’s allegation of sexual abuse.
