Another popular legend about Valentine’s Day is associated with the ancient Roman festival called Lupercalia. During this eve, there was a celebration where young men drew the names of young women who would be their partners during the festival. It signified their declaration of affection and esteem.
One popular tradition was celebrated in Italy during the Middle Ages where on the morning of St. Valentine’s Day an unmarried person stood on the street outside their home. It was believed that the first person they encountered would be their true love. They would greet the first passer-by with the phrase “Good morning, tis St. Valentine’s Day!”
