General District Court Judge Charles Foley sentenced Johnny Ray Dean. 19, of Manassas, to 191 days in jail on Tuesday. The sentence was meted out after a hearing on violations of Dean's agreement with the Community Diversions Incentives program.
Dean and a co-defendant pleaded guilty in December 1987 to the vandalism of 13 mailboxes in the Ben Venue Castleton area. They w ere sentenced to 15 days in jail on each of 13 counts of destruction of private property. Judge Foley suspended 191 days of the 195-day jail term on condition that the two each perform 6(i hours of community service and pay costs and restitution.
On Tuesday. Dear, was back after being charged with failure to appear for a previous hearing date, contempt of court and violation of his CDI contract by failing to perform his community service.
Susan Bishton. the CDI counselor. told Judge Foley that after appearing at four scheduled office appointments. Dean had missed all other scheduled visits. In addition, she said, one of the notations in her records indicated that she had appeared in court for a hearing but he had not shown up.
Ms. Bishton said that Dean had been credited with performing only two of his 60 hours of community service after he lost a log which recorded 12 additional hours worked at the New Baltimore recycling center. Keeping the log was his responsibility. she added.
