Tax rate
Continued from Page 1
So the 69-cent rate that is being advertised works out to an increase of 38 percent.
In Warren County, the current real estate tax rate is 49 cents; the proposed rate is 70 cents, a 42.8 percent hike.
Madison, another county with a new assessment, levied 71 cents per $100 this year. The supervisors there have not yet advertised a rate but if budget requests are funded as submitted, and if the increase is absorbed entirely in the real estate levy, the rate will go up 13 cents, according to the Madison County administrator. That is an increase of approximately 17 percent.
Neither budgets nor rates have been adopted yet by any of the neighboring counties, but judging from preliminary indications, Rappahannock’s taxpayers will have the lowest rate increase and the lowest rates in the region when the new fiscal year begins July 1.
