As the high school SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) has brought to our attention, we must not forget that teenage drinking can be a problem.
Alcohol is the drug of choice among children and teens. When kids drink, they don’t “sip it” to be social. They may drink until they’re drunk, even though they don’t admit it or even recognize it. They may get into cars and attempt to drive home. Too many never make it.
Drunk driving is the leading killer of young people between the ages of 16 and 24. They are net only being killed by adult drunk drivers, which is also a serious problem, but they are killing themselves and their friends.
The Rappahannock County Elementary School PTA urges parents to talk with their children and teens about drinking and driving drunk. These conversations - there must be more than one - should include how the parents feel about the issues and some ideas on how the kids can resist peer pressure to drink and
