Front Royal will celebrate its second annual Virginia Mushroom Festival this weekend, with events set to kick off with a dinner-dance Friday night at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. The dinner, according to a festival spokesman, will feature a mushroom menu. After dinner, music for dancing will be provided by Baby Huey and the Babysitters.
On Saturday, the festivities will begin with a “mushroom processional” down Main Street.
There will also be a juried arts and crafts show, featuring local craftsmen exhibiting their work and offering it for sale.
Several bands will play, including the Army’s Blues Band, an 18piece ensemble which performs music of the big band era. The Front Royal/Warren County Community Band will also perform. Both bands will play at the newly renovated village commons area on Main Street.
Other events scheduled for the day include a mushroom cooking school by famed chef Jean-Louis Palladia the proprietor of Washington’s Jean-Louis at the Watergate restaurant. He will demonstrate the preparation of a number of mushroom dishes, and participants will assist in cooking some of the recipes. Tickets for the school are $10, available from the Chamber of Commerce office.
