And Sperryville has become a favorite stop for visitors touring Virginia’s Northern Piedmont. Only five miles east of Skyline Drive on , Rt. 211, it is also a leisurely 90 minute drive from Washington, D. C., and Richmond.
The town is registered as a historic district by the State Division of Landmarks, and many of its buildings date from as early as 1780. Although tourism has brought a renaissance in the village in recent years, it is little changed from early in this century.
And, in addition to the sightseeing within the village, there are outdoor recreational opportunities galore both within Shenandoah National Park and in the surrounding areas. “WildfloWers, spectacular mountain views, wildlife, clean water and fresh air abound,” Ms. Woodard said.
