Attractions will be scheduled throughout the day, including wine exhibits and tastings from the area's wineries, hay and hot air balloon rides, a farmers' market featuring local produce, educational exhibits and talks on wines, herbs and mushrooms, and a mushroom cook-off.
The Appalachian Mushroom Growers Association will sponsor a wild mushroom hunt. Participants are asked to meet at the gate to the 4-H Center at 1:30 p.m. The hunt will be conducted by Dr. Orsen Miller.
To cap the day's celebration, there will be an old-fashioned country hoedown at the Northern Virginia 4-H Center. The Center is located off Rt. 522 in Harmony Hollow just south of Front Royal. Music will be provided by the Page Valley Boys, and 4-H Center director John Dooley will call the dances.
Last year, the first Virginia Mushroom Festival drew an estimated 10,000 visitors to Front Royal. Mr. Dooley, who is chairman of the festival’s steering committee, said, "The second mushroom festival will be bigger and better than last year’s.”
