The Department of Classical Languages at Wakefield School has received word of a number of awards given to Greek and Latin students in international, national and state competitions.
Fourteen Greek students received second and third places in the National Greek Exam, which was administered to more than 800 high school and college students in the U.S., Canada, and England.
Placing second in the Odyssey I contest were Merren Booth, Mary McAllister, Larissa Paule-Carres and Julia Whitworth. Third place winners were Carrie Beeton, Nicola Datta, Sean Harre, Vincent Houyoux, Chris Larrieu, Bjorn Lindholm, Tanja Lindholm, Melissa Manuel, Robby Roberts and Alex Smith.
In the National Latin Exam, 24 students received awards. This exam is given to more than 60,000 junior high and secondary students in the U.S., England, Australia, Italy, and Japan.
In this competition, Amy Longyear has received a gold medal with summa cum /awdedistinction. Rachel Monahan, Katrina Lindholm, Denis Houyoux, and Alison Brandt have received silver medals in the maxima cum laude category.
Certificates of magna cum laude Were given to Roberta Ohlinger, Kathleen O’Neill, Stephanie Tomedon, Kate Mahoney, and Ben Martin. Cum Laude awards have been given to Stephanie Scott, Nathan Rice, Courtney Beeton, Laura O’Herron, Justin Harrell, Takashi Takenoshita, Laura Larimer, Evan Walker, Malcolm McCurry, Detra Funk, Samara Sargent, Katie Holland and Sharon Homg.
