The firemen’s carnival July 29July 2 was a spectacular event. Many remarked that it was the best that Amissville has ever had. The West Virginia Amusement Co. was unable to put up all rides due to limited space; therefore next year there may be some different rides added. The numerous rides and activities included something for everyone from small children to adults. The firemen thank everyone in the community for their support.
Rachel Atkins was crowned honorary fire chief, while Michelle Woodard won the title of tiny miss fire chief. Congratulations to both these young ladies.
Grand prize of $1,000 went to Carol C. Taylor, Sperryville. Other prizes included $500 awarded to Quita Parrish of Viewtown, $50 to Hoover Lucas, Grottoes, Va., $50 to Emily Taylor, Sperryville, $25 to Diane Burke, Rixeyville, and $25 to G.W. Gordon, Fredericksburg.
Parade committee members Sharon and Sheila Scott and David Milbourne worked many long hours organizing the parade. Parade winners included the judges’ award to the United Methodist Church float, the first year the church entered the parade. The float was in the shape of the church and included pews of people singing. It was certainly worth all the hard work that went into its creation.
