RICHMOND - Responding to drought conditions dominating the Mid-Western states, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), in con-. junction with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, has established a hay program to assist the efforts to combat the drought’s effect.
VDACS has installed a toll-free number inside Virginia, (800) 2887595, to receive information from Virginia farmers who want to donate hay or who need hay to feed their livestock.
VDACS Commissioner S. Mason Carbaugh said farmers calling the hay hotline will be able to provide information about their resources directly to VDACS Division of Marketing staff. The hotline will be in operation during regular business hours of 8 a. m. to 5 p. m.
