As long as I can remember, the name George Jones has been synonymous with country music. George has been appearing on the country music charts and in the Academy of Country Music since the 1950s with such songs as “Window Up Above,” “White Lightning,” and of course “She Thinks I Still Care” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” He appeared on the stage at the Bull Run Country Jamboree several years ago and, believe me, the crowds didn’t want to let him leave.
Headlining the Bull Run Country Jamboree is Waylon Jennings. If you don’t know Waylon Jennings, you don’t know country music. Waylon is an original; he likes to shake tradition and it all comes through in his “outlaw” style of music. From his hits of the ’60s to his offbeat, out-ofthe-ordinary, but always successful tunes of the last decade, Waylon Jennings has quenched the thirsty ears of country music lovers with such hit songs as “Amanda,” “Luckenback, Texas,” “The Wurlitzer Prize,” “Good Hearted Woman” . . . the list goes on and on.
During the day a variety of foods and soft drinks, as well as official Jamboree souvenirs, may be purchased at the many concession stands that will dot the grounds) Visitors are invited to bring coolers of picnic foods and beverages. How-* ever, Jamboree organizers announce that no alcoholic beverages will be permitted.
The park will be closed July 17 to all but Jamboree ticket-holders, who are entitled to the use of the 1,00(K acre park’s mini-golf, picnic facilities and one of the largest swimming pools in northern Virginia.
Tickets to the Bull Run Country Jamboree are $12.50 in advance and $15 at the gate on Jamboree day; Tickets may be purchased at Ticketcenter outlets in the metropolitan area, Fredericksburg and Charlottesville, all Desperados American Wear stores, all regional parks and the NVRPA headquarters. Tickets will also be available in Winchester at Ear Food Records.
