Petitions call for special treatment for Rappahannock natives

Measuring the dissatisfaction with the manner in which the county handles family subdivisions, or maybe just development in general, the board has received petitions with about 350 signatures, proposing that “natives” be allowed to build houses on less acreage than required by the zoning ordinance.

The petitions specify neither the minimum lot size for Rappahannock County “natives” nor whether the special treatment would apply to all subdivisions or just to family transfers.

According to Mr. McCarthy, such a provision establishing a different set of regulations for people born in Rappahannock County would be patently unconstitutional.
