A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of William Franklin and Sarah Catherine Butler Hume. He had lived in Culpeper for many years.
He was a member of the Alum Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Emma H. Butler, Culpeper, two sons, Clarence C. Hume, Warrenton, and William R. Hume, Gainesville, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted June 30 at Clore Funeral Home by the Rev. William Wilkins. Interment was at the Woodville Cemetery.
