Art class at Middle Street

Laurie Marshall will teach a drawing class for children ages five and older the week of July 18 at Middle Street Gallery in Washington. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. The cost is $25 and financial aid is available. The students will learn the Monart method of drawing as well as how to create images unique to themselves. Call 675-3267 to register.

Higher education in Rappahannock

Anyone interested in making higher education more available in Rappahannock County is invited to a meeting July 17 at 2 p.m. at Middle Street Gallery. This will be a brainstorming session to discuss the needs of county residents for higher education, the college-level resources of Rappahannock that could be made better use of and the possible formation of a closer relationship with Lord Fairfax Cofnmunity College, James Madison University and George Mason University. The meeting is being called by Dr. Denise Horton and Laurie Marshall, who have a strong interest in having higher education be a part of Rappahannock life.

Rappahannock Literacy to meet

This Friday, July 8, the Rappahannock Literacy Volunteers will meet in the Trinity Parish Hall at the usual 9:30 hour. This meeting is the July meeting - just a week late.

Carnival at Brandy Station

The Brandy Station firemen’s carnival will be held July 1315, opening July 13 at 7 p.m. with a family night offering all rides all night for $4 per person. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with more than 150 entries, and plate dinners will be erved before and after the parade. A dozen rides will be feared, along with live music and games.

RALLY will meet July 25

The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY) will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 25 at the Courthouse in Washington. According to litter coordinator Nina Stamer, the meeting will include a discussion about plans for a recycling center at the new county landfill in Amis8ville, and a community recycling day to be held in August.
