Subdivision Continued from page 3 Mr. Estes asked, how did the small lots get onto the landbooks? “The implication is that somebody walked that plat to the Commissioner of Revenue’s office,” Mr. McCarthy said. “There’s no plat in the land records. There never was,” Mr. Reynolds said. As to whether the court had directed the land be subdivided, Mr. Reynolds held this was unlikely— since both the judge and the commissioners had concluded that 44 acres couldn’t be subdivided into lots for 12 parties, why would the court direct the subdivision of 32 acres into 10 lots? In addition, he pointed out that the court’s records show written offers for two parcels, one of 32 acres and one of 12 acres. “I think the judge would have given detailed reasons for dividing the land into small lots (since the action would be in contravention of the county’s zoning regulations),” remarked Supervisor Nelson Lane. “I think somebody’s trying to pull the wool over somebody’s eyes here,” concluded Chairman Hubert Gilkey, affirming that the Board of Supervisors endorses an investigation of the matter.
