The skin can dissipate a lot of heat, but the body’s cooling system bogs down when the air is hotter than the skin, especially when humidity is high and winds are calm. If the body temperature continues to rise, a number of things can happen.

Heat rash, also known as “prickly heat,” occurs in hot, humid climates where perspiration doesn’t easily evaporate from the skin. Sweat glands become plugged and inflamed, and a rash appears.

To prevent heat rash, keep the skin as dry as possible and wear fastdrying clothes, such as cotton. Rest
