The situation is further complicated by Philip’s relationship to Eleanor. She was formerly married to his father, King Louis of France; their marriage was annulled when she produced only daughters (Philip’s and Alias’s half-sisters). And there are other hidden relationships even more tangled.
“It’s just like a soap opera, and the incredible thing is that it’s all true!” said Dinah Pehrson-Day, who plays Eleanor.
Eleanor and Henry use the rest as pawns. They are the chief manipulators and they are both masters at the game. Despite the wrong moves commited by the pair over the years — hers treason; his infidelity — they still care for each other, and this passion influences their play. Also, the others are beginning to intrigue and make moves of their own. It’s politics, royal style, with crown and empire at stake.
