In the “Rappahannock heritage” photo on page 4 of the Aug. 31 issue, the birds on the lawn of Avon Hall are identified as Canadian geese.
An omithologically learned reader has brought it to our attention that the waterfowl on Mr. Carrigan’s lawn are actually called Canada geese (Branta canadensis), not Canadian geese.
