Along with Elizabeth’s notice that she was a semi-finalist, she also received an application form that required her to list all the honors and recognitions she had received and write an autobiographical essay which includes a question about which of these honors was most significant, and another about her future plans.
Of her many honors, Elizabeth is certain that being selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Gifted last summer at Virginia Tech was most meaningful.
She took a class called “Science, Technology and Society.” It was a course in the “technology design process,” Liz explained. “We worked a lot in the IBM computer lab,” she said. She not only used the computers for Computer Aided Design (CAD), but also had to learn the Word Perfect work processing program for written reports.
