School Superintendent David Gangel is fairly bursting with pride over the improvement in reading scores on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills at the element^-y school this year.

Indeed, there is reason for his pride as scores in reading vocabulary improved more than six percentage points and those in reading comprehension improved about 7.5 percentage points. Unfortunately this success was not equaled at the high school where scores in reading vocabulary and comprehension each dropped four percentage points. Nevertheless, for the school system as a whole there was a gain of six percentage points in vocabulary and 5.4 in reading comprehension.
