nity. Mr. Kellert also gave special thanks to the Amissville Ruritan Club, which gave the project financial, volunteer and construction support during the past few years.
“It has been one of the most astounding examples of community spirit — with the with the children being the real winners,” Mr. Kellert said. “And it can really be traced back to people such as Capt. and Mrs. Stuart."
Julian Brown, the commissioner of the Western Division, also noted the community spirit and support of the league during his introduction of the teams’ sponsors, as well as those who contributed time and materials to make the fields what they are today.
“It is hard to imagine that so much can be accomplished with just donations and volunteers,” Mr. Brown said. “These 1990 sponsors represent just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the support we have received already this year.”
“It will take money to keep us going,” RAA Finance Chairwoman Cheryl Diggs agreed. She encouraged the community to continue its support with donations and contributions to the league’s fund-raisers, including raffles and concession stands which open during all games.
The future of the RAA, President Kellert said, looks bright as it begins its 1990 season with the dedication of Stuart Field. Jerry Brown, the league’s vice-president, stated that, for the first time, all age brackets have been sanctioned by the National Babe Ruth organization and that the RAA will be fielding several teams in district and state tournaments.
“The district has also asked the RAA to host the 1991 Babe Ruth tournament for 13 to 15 year-olds, which we would like to do providing that we can continue to get this type of support in the future,” Mr. Brown added.
