took a look at the scores and decided that math scores were most in need of improvement. During the 1988-89 school year mathematics was emphasized at all grade levels and math scores improved dramatically from 57.3 to 62.7 at the elementary school and from 49 to 56.7 at the high school.
After looking at the scores from the second year of testing Dr. Gangel decided to tackle reading next. Reading received more emphasis at both schools. Teachers were asked to suggest ways they could improve reading and efforts were made to follow up on these suggestions. Also the schedule at the elementary school was rearranged to allow at least one and a half hours of uninterrupted time for reading each day.
At the elementary school this year these efforts paid off in increased scores in reading. At the high school they did not. Dr. Gangel told the teachers at a faculty
