The highway department headquarters in Richmond has received a number of letters from people who use the spring, he added, all urging that it be left open for people to use at their own risk.
Meanwhile, the original complaintant, a resident of Great Falls, called the Rappahannock News on Monday to express his displeasure with the lack of action so far by the state health and highway departments. Jim Stimson stressed that he did not wish to create a controversy when he inquired about the spring’s safety, but was only concerned for the health of those — including his family — who had drunk from the spring.
He said that he hopes additional testing will be done to determine whether what, if any, contaminants, are in the water.
Mr. Moore acknowledged that the highway department, which owns the right-of-way where the springbox sits, will be unlikely to satisfy everyone no matter what decision is reached. “Whatever position we take, there will be some people disappointed in us.”
