Gangel calls

The $4.4 million school budget that Superintendent David Gangel presented to the School Board Tuesday night is $19,312 lower than the current budget and calls for a $52,669 increase in local spending.
Under this budget, the local share would go from $2,409,019 to $2,461,688.
Pay raises for teachers and other school workers were kept in, but other items were eliminated to cut costs.
The budget shows the federal share of the budget increasing from $216,427 to $239,662, a difference of $23,195.
But the portion of the budget coming from state and other funds is decreasing. The state share will go from $1,328,994 to $1,240,305, a decrease of $88,689. The share of the budget from other funds, mostly the one percent of the state sales tax returned to the localities based on school-age population, will go from $503,559 to $497,072, a decrease of $6,487.
Actually the reduction from the state is greater, than it appears, Dr. Gangel explained, because he is including in the state’s share a $44,000 rebate for for fimds< contributed by the school system to the state retirement! system.
