Piedmont Recycling gave the county notice several weeks ago and the Charlottesville firm was contacted, but it took until this Monday to re-start the operation, said Mr McCarthy.
Under Piedmont, the Recycling Center was just about breaking even, but Mr. McCarthy expects that to change. Preston Coiner will bill the county for pickups, then credit the county’s account with the value of the recycled items, which is not expected to cover transportation costs.
Mr. McCarthy said the value of recycling will come in saved landfill space.
