The Hospice Medicare Benefit is available for terminal patients with Medicare Part A; the Hospice Medicaid Benefit is available to hospice patients eligible for Medicaid. Coverage consists of unlimited nursing %, care, home health aide visits, medical social services and bereavement support. Volunteers provide emotional support and respite.
After electing one of these benefits, the beneficiary retains eligibility for Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement for physician services and services not related to the life threatening condition.
“These hospice benefits can literally save patients and families thousands of dollars,” continues Mr. Morton. “Families are so pleased when they no longer have these financial demands.”
Hospice allows people to remain at home with symptoms controlled while family members are supported. Staff is available for questions and consultation 24 hours a day seven days a week.
