Mrs. Lee got the idea for her Reading Workshop during an inservice session last summer on “whole language.” At that session “In the Middle” bv Nancie Atwell was recommended as a way to use whole language instruction with older students.

Mrs. Atwell teaches eighth graders in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Her book describes her experiences in establishing reading and writing workshops for her eighth-grade students.

Mrs. Atwell’s students have won national recognition for their skills in writing.
