While her prints are often identified by their size, Mrs. Rogers said she chose smaller canvas for this series “to make it more like a story.”
“I love a big canvas,” the artist said, explaining that with larger sizes viewer are “hugged” by the canvas.
“They (the viewer) can feel they are in it,” she said.
“Journey through a Depression” is one of several series Ruth Blackwell Rogers is known for. Her Journey I and II depict age old tales from myths and fairytales.
One, “Heart and Spine Series,” was displayed at a gallery in Berlin in 1986. She presently prepares for the “Breath Series that will open in Berlin in the summer.
Rappahannock viewers may be familiar with her work from displays at Middle Street Gallery in Washington.
On Sunday, March 10, she will have nine other pieces on display in addition to the slide presentation “Journey Through A Depression.”
The fourth part of the series is “Choreographers and Performers,” at 7:30 April 7 at the Washington Town Hall. »
