last week’s Rappahannock News, a front-page article by Jeff Nelson from Richmond (^Bureaucracy, schools are big losers after session”) tells us that a bill that “established mandatory deposits on beverage containers was killed.”
I hope when this bill comes up next year, as it will, you will have driven down to Culpeper on U.S. 522 in all seasons and seen the hundreds of trashed containers along both sides. _ And I hope that meanwhile you will have had a chance to visit at least one of the several states that have enacted “Bottle Bills” so you can see the difference for yourself. Lastly, I hope you will publish another editorial on the subject with care for the environment and pride in our county and state on your mind.
The Corner Store in Sperryville sells beVerages in containers requiring deposits and they accept the returns with a great smile. If it’s an inconvenience to them, you’d never ‘know it. i RUTH C. RICHARDS ; Sperryville
