Myths, fairytale characters, personal feeling and conquest are all themes Ruth Blackwell Rogers captures on canvas using color of various hues, tones and shades.
The work of the West Virginia colorist is the third in a four-part series, entitled “The Exchange,” presented by Ki Theatre at 7:30 p.m. March 10 in the Washington Town Hall.
The presentation features slides of Ms. Rogers’ famed “Journey Through a Depression” series with readings. Tickets for the event are $5 for advanced purchases, available at Mountainside Market or by calling Ki Theatre at 987-3164. Tickets at the door are $6.
The orginial 21 canvases, watercolor and color pencil pieces, 10-by11 inches in size, took four months of non-stop work to complete and portray the progression into a near-suicidal state and the return to reality, as felt by the artist as she dealt with such a situation with a close friend.
Upon their completion and upon her friend’s “dramatic improvement and recovery,” the artist was able to share the journey with the patient.
After viewing the work, the friend provided a personal journal to accent the paintings.
