STRASBURG—Despite a 19point, six rebound effort by Kevin Jolliffe, the Rappahannock High jayvee basketball team’s season was ended by Clarke County on Feb. 27.
The jayvees ended the season with a 14-5 record, finishing in third place in the Bull Run District. Clarke and Stonewall Jackson played for the district title Friday night in Broadway.
Coach Tim Corder said his squad was outmatched on the boards, and turnovers also hurt the Panthers.
They had so much height, we just got killed on the boards, and turnovers were definitely a factor,' said Coach Corder.
The Eagles led at halftime, 3423, before running away with the game in the second half.
Patrick O’Meara scored 12 points for Rappahannock and pulled in five rebounds. Freshman Jonathan Fletcher poured in nine points and snagged six rebounds.
Coach Corder said prospects for next year are good, with Fletcher and starter Hunter Foster returning to the 14-5 squad. He said eighthgraders Paul Brown, Roy Atkins and Jason Settle are also expected to contribute next season.
This year’s team, however, did well against the tough district competition, ending up in a three-way tie for first after the regular season. Only Clarke County beat the Panth, ers twice.
