A small group of county residents got together last Wednesday to organize in support of Texas billionaire Ross Perot’s independent candidacy for President.

Charles Glass of Front Royal, 10th District coordinator of Virginians for Perot, got the group together at the library to begin organizing for the campaign even though Mr. Perot has not yet announced his candidacy.

Bob Smith of Washington will be chairman of the county organization. John Lekander and Julie Music will serve as co-secretaries. The group has already started petitioning to have Mr. Perot’s name included on the presidential ballot. Petitioning will continue through June 12.

Supporters are required to get the signatures of one half of one percent of the registered voters. They are trying to get closer to 10 percent and are nearing that goal of 300 signatures in Rappahannock County.

Mr. Glass said for the election they fhould try to have a captain for each of the county’s six precincts with two or more people working in each precinct at the neighborhood level.
