They have also had to pay for telephone banks in Richmond and Northern Virginia. Mr. Glass said the contributions wouldn’t be going to the Perot campaign, since Mr. Perot isn’t officially a candidate, but strictly to the state organization.
Walter Day of Flint Hill questioned the wisdom of requesting contributions. He said, "The thing making Perot stand out in my mind is that he would not owe anybody for anything. I smell politics as usual.”
Mr. Perot has said if he decides to run, he will finance the campaign himself. He has also said people could contribute $5 so they feel they have a stake in the campaign. Mr. Day suggested contributions be limited to $5.
