said that the school will not field a soccer team in the fall. Instead, Mr. Carter said the school will try to organize a spring soccer team.
George Mason is the only team in the district with fall soccer. This has meant that the rest of the schedule has been against private schools and club teams. Both those groups have their own heavy schedules, and getting a soccer schedule together has been difficult, he said.
Mr. Carter said that both Brentsville and Central in the Bull Hun District have spring soccer teams, and George Mason has said it will switch to spring soccer if Rappahannock does.
This will mean that only girls’ basketball and cross country will be offered as fall sports at the high school. It will also mean that the spring season will be quite busy with track, baseball, softball and soccer. Mr. Carter said that it should be possible to avoid conflicts between the use of the field for soccer and track. He said the fields at the elementary school may be needed for some soccer practices. Also the shot put and discus throw will have to be moved outside the soccer field.
