James Preston “Dickie” Walters was returned to Rappahannock County from Roanoke May 28 to face charges stemming from his escape last year, according to Sheriff John Henry Woodward.
Walters was arrested in Roanoke for trespassing, and held when authorities there discovered he was wanted here for escape. He was convicted of trespassing, Woodward said, and sentenced to 12 months in jail. Walters will serve that time while in custody here.
In addition to the pending escape charge, Walters is also charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny, and is awaiting sentencing on convictions on two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of grand larceny, Woodward said.
The sheriff said that, including time for a parole violation in Warren County and the sentence from Roanoke, Walters is facing 4'/2 years in jail — plus any sentence he receives for the other offenses.

• A report of a possible plane - crash near Chester Gap was apparently unfounded, according to Sheriff Woodward. About 6:30 p.m. May 28, aChester Gap resident called the Warren County Sheriffs Office to report he saw a small plane he thought was in trouble.
