The Lady Panthers were eliminated from the playoffs when they lost a regional game to Madison 5-1 last Friday.
The Madison team featured the fast ball pitching of senior Mary Damiser, who allowed no hits while striking out 14 and giving up five walks.
In only her third loss of the season, Rappahannock pitcher Susan Payne allowed eight hits while striking out eight and walking five.
Coach Renee Leake is proud of her team’s season. “To lose 5 to 1 to a team that is chosen to win the state isn’t bad,” she said. “Defensively we played fine/We just couldn’t hit her. We’ve come a long way this year.” Mrs. Leake said she really appreciates the support the softball team has had from the school and community this year.
The Rappahannock softball team led the area in team hitting, and senior Sherron Boddie led in individual batting with a .600 batting average.
The high school sports scene has ended for the year, but plans are underway for next year.
