Michelle Early, Janies Roy, Sherron Boddie and Amy Kellert got top awards at last Wednesday’s athletic banquet at the high school.
This was the first year for the Neil Burke Memorial Award. Mr. Burke, who died last month in a traffic accident, graduated from the high school in 1987. While he was a student he participated in both the track and the cross-country teams. Rodney Grimsley, who was his teammate, said he demonstrated “perseverance, effort and dedication.” Michelle Early received the first Neil Burke award. In her high school years she has been active in cheerleading and track.
James Roy received the Rappahannock News Athletic Award. He has played varsity basketball for four years. This past year he also tried soccer and played goalie most of the season. He has also been on the baseball team.
Sherron Boddie won the Rappahannock High School Best Athlete Award. She has been played basketball and softball and been a cheerleader during her high school years.
Amy Kellert won the Sportsmanship Award. She has been an active cheerleader since eighth grade.
