Rappahannock students continued to perform above the national average on standardized test scores this year.
At Tuesday night’s School Board meeting Superintendent David Gan gel handed out scores in the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills for fourth, eighth and eleventh graders this year compared with scores since 1988. He noted of the scores, “Some are up, some down, but it’s a good range to be in. There will always be ups and downs. You need to look at the trends over time.”
Percentile scores for fourth graders were 59 for readiing vocabulary, 57 for reading comprehension, 64 for language, 62 for study skills, 63 for math, 73 for science and 67 for social studies.
For eighth graders the scores were 65 for reading vocabulary, 56 for reading comprehension, 67 for language, 62 for study skills, 67 for math, 62 for science, and 65 for social studies.
For eleventh graders the scores were 64 for reading, 68 for written expression, 57 for using sources of information, 62 for math, 58 for science, and 50 for social studies.
When compared with scores last year fourth graders scored higher on two tests, lower on four and the same on one. Eighth graders scored higher on three tests and lower on four. Eleventh graders scored higher on three tests and lower on
