Damien Muriel from Argentina has been living with the Helmere in Castleton. He played varsity soccer and basketball. He sAid people here are “particularly friendly.” He will miss most “my time on the basketball team, my school friends and Rachel,” he added.
Jeffrey Hydon is from Taiwan. He has been living with the Charles family outside Washington. He has only been in Rappahannock since the start of the second semester. He likes the small school. “I like the people here,” he added.
Kelly Cunningham from Australia spent the year with the McNear family in Gid Brown Hollow. “I like everything here,” she said. “I like the people a lot. I like not having to wear a school uniform, and I’m going to miss Hamburger Helper.”
She played varsity volleyball and enjoyed that. “Family life is more hectic here,” she said. “People are going off to different things, but that’s more fun because everybody is doing things.”
Diana Wiese from Germany has been living with the Pierce family in Chester Gap. She said she had enjoyed living with a different family and having American brothers and sisters. “You change the way you think about things,” she said. “You’re a different person.”
She said she found that her American family “takes the time to enjoy life more than most Germans who work, work, work.” She hopes to return to the United States to attend Brigham Young University in Utah in the fall.
