When the Water and Sewer Authority raised the rates for Sperryville sewer system customers to $15.50 per month for each EDU (Equivalent Dwellling Unit) last year, the income was supposed to generate a surplus which would go into a plant depreciation ftind to replace major pieces of equipment when necessary.
As the members of the authority were preparing the budget for the coming year, they learned that very little, if any, funds will be available for the plant depreciation fund. The principal reason is that expenses for plant chemicals have increased dramatically since the dechlorinator was installed.
