the state party is trying to dump Goldman as chairman and may have a chance of success. Led by former State Sen. Moody Stallings of Virginia Beach, who blames his defeat last fall on both Goldman and Wilder, the party’s resolution committee voted by 7-4 to recommend Goldman’s ouster to state convention delegates.
Though Wilder defended Goldman as an alleged outstanding chairman, there is substantial disagreement with that assessment. Said Stallings, “Everybody I’ve talked to. . . is completely fed up and some have threatened to leave the party until Goldman is gone.”
(At last weekend’s convention in Roanoke, Goldman survived a challenge to his chairmanship. But, he remains personally unpopular, and many powerful Democrats still feel the party would be better off without him.)
While this was happening* other fellow Democrats were opening up a second front against the governor they are not so happy to claim as their own.
