Robertson said the judges have discussed a fourth judgeship “informally” the circuit’s General Assembly representatives, and a proposal is being prepared for submission to the Judicial Council.
The council, made up of judges representing the state’s courts as well as legislators, will review the proposal and make a recommendation to the General Assembly, which must approve the request.
If the judgeship is approved in Richmond during next year’s General Assembly session, an appointment would be made effective July 1, 1993. The last time the 20th Circuit was expanded was in 1982, when Home was appointed as its third judge.
