told of how Bill Roberts’ brother, Jesse Roberts, died. Seems there was a limb on a tree in Bill’s yard that he thought would fall on the house. Jesse said you have a saw don’t you. So Jesse climed the tree to saw the limb and fell out dying soon thereafter. You’ve got to remember that Jesse was in his eighties then.
This reminds me of another piece of information orally offered by Benton. His grandfather (Richard Dwyer) was known to be a powerful as well as agile man. That once when putting shingles on a roof, Richard slipped and fell off the roof. Witnesses said that he landed square on his feet when he hit the ground.
Benton, Thomas Benton Dwyer, is the youngest and only surviving child of John Thomas and Effie Lenora Spitz Dwyer. John was a carpenter by trade as was Benton. John Thomas Dwyer was twice married. First, he married Golden 0. McKenzie. By this union there were born five children, viz: 1) Charlie Dwyer, who moved to Springfield was married and died and is buried there, leaving two daughters, one of whom is still living. 2) John Dwyer moved to Wamega, Kansas, he never married and had no issue. 3) Bessie Dwyer who married a Mr. Drake. 4) Lucy Dwyer who married a Mr. Keeling and resided in Amarilo, Texas. 5) Sally Dwyer, who married James Johnson, living and dying in Bolivar, Polk Co., Missouri.
John Thomas Dwyer married secondly, Effie Lenora Spitz, by whom were bom four other children. 6: Hershel Dwyer who died as an infant. 7) Maynard Dwyer who never married, lived and died in Bolivar. 8) Joseph Matthew “Mat” Dwyer. 9) Thomas Benton “Ben” Dwyer, still living as 721 East South St., Boli
