Old-fashioned field day
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department will hold an old-fashioned field day with a pig roast, horseshoe tournament, a greased pig contest for children and volleyball. The activities will begin at noon, Saturday, june 13 at the fire department's carnival grounds. Trophies will be awarded, and a band will provide musical entertainment.
Vint Hill's 50th
Vint Hill Farms Station, in New Baltimore, will mark its 50th anniversary as an Army base with a gala celebration this weekend.
Beginning with the official welcome by base commander Col. Rick Davis and opening ceremonies at 10 a.m., Friday, June 12, the festivities will continue through the weekend, with music during the day and into the evening, static displays of military equipment, plenty of food and other activities.
The base, which for many years has served as one of the nation's listening posts for communications intelligence, was originally purchased by the Army in 1942.
