The ladies still have the upper
hand in Washington, Va. Mrs. Dorothy C. Davis was elected to the office of Mayor in the election held Tuesday. On the write-in ballot, she polled 33 votes.
Mrs. Davis was Mayor of the town in 1950 when the first allwoman slate of officers was elected. Mrs. Martha Critzer, outgoing Mayor, called her and congratulated her on being elected. Mrs. Critzer did not seek re-election.
Mrs. Davis said, “I appreciate all the many expressions of good wishes and confidence that have been tendered since the write-in election on Tuesday, and wish to take this opportunity to thank you.”
A Little Nursery School opened Monday, June 11 at Trinity Episcopal Parish Hall. It is operated by Dana Snead, Susan Schaefer and Dotty Davis, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Enrollment to date is 14 pre-school age pupils from the Flint Hill, Sperryville and Washington areas. There is space for more to attend and any interested parents should contact one of the teachers.
There will be a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, June 18 at the location of the Aileen Manufacturing plant near Flint Hill. Equipment has been moved in and grading for the building begun.
