Crews for two construction firms are pushing dirt, spreading gravel and laying pavement at a furious pace along U.S. 211 between Washington and Sperryville.
The job has been divided into two sections at the Covington River by the Virginia Department of Transportation and Highways. L. F. Franklin of Stephenson is building the eastern section near Washington and Haynes Brothers. Inc., of Chatham is building the western section that ends near Sperry ville.
Robert Moore, VDOT’s Resident Engineer in Rappahannock County, said earlier this week that both jobs are on schedule. Franklin began work one year ago on the eastern section with a 240 “working day” time limit.
