There was standing room only at the Library’s program on haunted houses Friday Nov. 6.
Elizabeth Johnson, Ted Chapman, and Bob Scott joined Dot Mank in a panel Mrs. Mank had organized to tell stories of haunted houses in Rappahannock, neighboring Warren County and ghost stories from as far away as Valley Forge and Winchester.
They sat at a small table covered with a white tablecloth lit only with candles. Stories ranged from a vision Goerge Washington was reported to have had at Valley Forge to snippets of ghost stories from the Washington House in Washington, Virginia, and the old Eastham house in Flint Hill. But the star of the evening was Sam.
Mrs. Johnson told of the experiences she, Peggy Smith, Mrs. Smith’s daughter, a housequest and “Susie”, a medium, had with Sam, the ghost of Samuel Warren Mills, a union soldier who found himself at Oak Hill, at that time the home of Lucy Miller, Mr. Johnson’s grandmother, arid now the home of Peggy and Arthur Smith.
